General Provisions
This manual has been developed as a supplement to the already existing recommendations for the design and
installation of waterproofing made of TECHNONICOL polymer membranes.
The document is consistent with, takes into account and does not cancel previously developed instructions for the
design and installation of waterproofing made of TECHNONICOL polymer membranes.
This manual has been prepared for specialists of the professional construction community in order to improve the
quality of design and installation of waterproofing.
The manual is intended for use in the development and implementation of waterproofing projects for foundations
made of polymer roll waterproofing materials produced by TECHNONICOL under the trade marks LOGICBASE and
ECOBASE (hereinafter referred to as polymer membranes or LOGICBASE and ECOBASE waterproofing membranes).
The provisions of this manual in terms of design and installation rules apply to all presented waterproofing systems
made of LOGICBASE and ECOBASE polymer membranes.
The manual contains information about polymer membranes for waterproofing foundations, selection methods and
applicability criteria of systems installed on their basis. It provides information on the principles of designing insulation
systems, rules of installation of polymer membranes, methods of quality control of waterproofing works.
The provisions of the manual are applied to waterproofing systems installed on the basis of LOGICBASE
and ECOBASE polymer membranes, in the construction and reconstruction of civil, industrial and transportation
construction projects.
This manual shall not be used instead of design or regulatory documents. When designing waterproofing systems
and installing waterproofing coatings, the requirements of national and territorial regulations on design of insulating
coatings and safety precautions in construction, as well as current regulations on occupational health and fire safety in
construction, must be observed.
The design of waterproofing systems and the installation of waterproofing coatings must be carried out by
specialized organizations that are authorized to carry out such work.

Introduction
LOGICBASE polymer membranes and systems based on them are a technological and advanced method of
waterproofing, ensuring high speed of construction and safety of facilities.
A wide range of manufactured polymer membranes and all necessary accessories guarantees the adaptability of
the systems, allowing to solve the problem of waterproofing of foundations even in dicult engineering and geological
conditions, regardless of the type of foundation pit and depth.
Installation of the systems is carried out with the use of technologies and equipment that provide convenience,
simplicity and fast pace of work. Unique methods of quality control of the performed waterproofing measures and
tightness of systems allow to achieve a high level of their reliability.
The manual will present the technologies of secondary protection of foundations constructed by open cut method
in foundation pits without anchoring and in foundation pits reinforced with envelopes (wall in the ground, etc.).
The presented technologies of secondary protection provide for the use of rolled LOGICBASE / ECOBASE polymer
membranes as the main waterproofing material, on the basis of which unique systems are installed, which are realized
only on the basis of rolled polymer materials (PVC and TPO membranes).
Strength, elasticity, chemical and biological resistance, gas impermeability of LOGICBASE / ECOBASE polymer
membranes in combination with manufacturability and speed of installation are determining factors for their application
in the course of construction of facilities of dierent complexity.

About LOGICBASE polymer membranes
Polymer membranes are modern waterproofing materials that
provide high technological eciency of waterproofing works.
They not only maximize the speed of work, but also provide a high
degree of protection for the structure to be insulated.

Polymer membranes are characterized by unique indicators of the most important performance characteristics for
underground waterproofing:
— high tensile strength and elasticity;
— elongation from 350% to 600%;
— long-term compressive strength;
— water resistance at water pressure up to 1.0 MPa;
— chemical and biological resistance;
— potential service life of 100 years;
— maintainability.
When building foundations in cramped urban environments in pits reinforced with envelopes, polymer membranes
solve several problems critical to most waterproofing materials:
— compensate for mutual movements of the supporting structure and the foundation pit envelopes;
— provide the possibility of installing waterproofing on a wet base;
— provide the possibility of installing waterproofing on an uneven base of the wall in the ground;
— maintain water resistance in case of crack opening in the isolated structure.
Membranes can be installed practically all year round (including winter) without the use of greenhouses, which
significantly extends the construction season and reduces costs associated with the need to dry the concrete base.
Free laying of polymer membranes allows to avoid problems with adhesion to the base, because they can be laid
on a wet dusty unprimed base. This helps to minimize time and money spent on preparation of the base.
The speed of installation of polymer membranes in a single layer is significantly higher compared to multi-layer
systems that have a continuous adhesion to the base. The geometry of rolls allows to cover a large surface during their
installation and significantly reduces the number of joints, which is provided by the large area of rolls (41 m2).
Polymer membranes are highly durable and elastic, and are able to withstand significant tensile stresses that result
from structural vibrations. This feature avoids potential breaks in the waterproofing.
Polymer membranes easily withstand the impact of mechanical loads in the winter period, ie have mechanical
strength and elasticity at a wide range of temperatures. For example, when bending the material on a bar at -45 °C, no
cracks are formed on its surface.
Polymer membranes are able to maintain their thickness and water resistance at water pressure up to 1 MPa even
after long-term exposure to a uniformly distributed load, the value of which is calculated in hundreds of tons per square
meter. This is especially relevant in the waterproofing of slab foundations, where the pressure can reach up to 100 and
more tons/m2.
Polymer membranes placed on an uneven concrete base, under the pressure of concrete, soil or water repeat the
irregularities of the insulated base without cracks or breaks.
The potential service life of polymer membranes is 100 years. They retain their properties under conditions of
aggressive chemical media, such as acidic, alkaline, etc.
The automatic process of manufacturing joints of polymer membranes allows to control the tightness of the joints
with high precision by means of air pressure, which completely eliminates the human factor in the formation of joints of
waterproofing coating.
A unique feature of polymer membranes is the possibility of creating repairable systems that allow to restore the
water resistance of the waterproofing coating at the stage of operation of the structure without digging up the ground
and dismantling concrete structures.
The main advantages of waterproofing systems based on polymer membranes are:

■ maintainability.

Polymer roll waterproofing materials are unreinforced single- and two-layer membranes made of polyvinyl chloride
(PVC) or thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) by extruding the raw material.
